I definitely think of John Hurt, Geoffrey Bayldon, David Warner, and Joanna Lumley as being Doctor Who before anything else.

There are really people out there who think that the plot point about how Dalek casings work in The Magician's Apprentice was actually trying to imply that Daleks are regularly just trying to say "I love you", and I cannot imagine being that stupid.

For a franchise that prides itself on being able to "do anything", there are disappointingly few Doctor Who Expanded Universe stories set outside "The Standard Canon Timeline ™️ ". There still hasn't been so much as a Short Trip for, say, Shalka, or Lumley's 13.
