The rain can clean off a lot of dirt, but #solar panels installed in a landscape orientation, with a pitch less than 30° usually need a little help with cleaning. At your annual system inspection, have the panels inspected to see if they need cleaning. If in doubt, get a drone up and take a look!

Shading negatively affects #solarPV output. If one panel in a “string” is shaded, it reduces the output of the whole string, like a clog in a water pipe, restricting the flow of #electricity through the system & reducing the power generated. In worst-case scenarios, it can lead to panel damage.

If a #solar cell is covered by heavy soiling for any length of time (usually caused by birds or lichen), all the energy produced by the cells leading into it get dissipated into the covered cell, causing it to heat up, sometimes with pretty disastrous consequences. This is called a hotspot.
