Making good exams is also a challenge. Training on test construction never grows old for a teacher. #HealthXPH We also have to make sure the questions reflect what we have taught and what the students should have learned.
T2. Making instructional materials requires careful thought and preparation, which is an added load to the work of a clinician. However, if we want to really prepare medical students for their exposure to the specialty and to encourage more applicants, we need to hustle. #healthxph
T2. What challenges do you encounter often as a teacher in your field of work (i.e. in terms of student population/demographic, place of teaching/scheduling)? #Healthxph

When classes conflict with meetings and patient emergencies, it's a problem. I'm glad technology provides solutions for this like asynchronous sessions, video lectures and assignments on LMS. #healthXPH

I remember when I was a clerk at UST, we admitted a cyanotic old man who had a heart attack, and I had to do ambubagging the whole night and coach him to breathe with the bag. That taught me that the old man's life was literally in my hands. I stop bagging, he stops breathing. #HealthXPH

Good evening #HealthXPH Helen here from Cebu, sorry I'm late. The rain caused problems - had difficulty getting a ride home from clinic.

How is everybody? @stephaniemiaco.bsky.social @endocrinewitch.bsky.social @bonedocph.bsky.social @docbuboy.bsky.social

Let's get enough sleep so that we can think straight and plan well. Have a great weekend! #healthXPH

Have you ever felt the need for this??? Especially for morning conferences when you are post-duty or after-lunch lectures in classes? #healthXPH that's what comes to mind when I think of sleep deprivation.
October 25, 2025 at 2:03 PM
When people complain of difficulty losing weight, getting enough sleep is the first thing you need to address. #healthXPH Sleep hygiene is self-care. Easier said than done, but at least start with accepting this fact.

APMC has started limiting duty schedules to maximum of 12 hours per day. This is a good place to start - acknowledging the limits of human physiology. Even physicians need to rest everyday to maintain patient safety and satisfaction. #healthXPH sleep deprivation leads to medical errors.

Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool.
Use blackout curtains to block out light and noise.
Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
#HealthXPH One needs a conducive environment to have good quality sleep.

At my age, I have to limit my coffee to mornings. If I drink coffee after lunch, I find it difficult to go to sleep at night. #HealthXPH

Tips:
Wind down for at least 30 minutes before bed by avoiding stimulating activities.
Turn off electronic devices since blue light can disrupt sleep.
Engage in calming activities like listening to calming music.
#HealthXPH it's better to have a night time routine.

Here are some things I try to do to get enough sleep:
1. Go to bed and wake up at the same time: every day, including weekends, to regulate your body's internal clock.
#HealthXPH so although I sleep around midnight at the earliest, I wake up at 8AM.

For one, you have better attention span when you have had enough sleep. Your energy levels go up and moods are more positive. #healthXPH

Studies show that there was an increased rate of complications among post-nighttime surgical procedures performed by physicians with sleep opportunities of less than 6 hours. #HealthXPH pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19826026/

There were also many many times when we would go into surgery half asleep, and the nurses on duty would slap our hands with the clamp just to wake us up while assisting ORs... #HealthXPH I think we were running on adrenaline and cortisol...

Throughout the pandemic, I learned that Cebuanos are ready to help when asked. Whatever we lacked in the hospital, we would ask and somebody from our networks would respond to help. When you're really down at your lowest point, that's the time you realize that you're not alone at all. #HealthXPH
T2. What are your most important lessons learned from connecting with people in your field/career? Do share some lessons! #healthxph

Connections are great! They aid you in making things happen. It is when two or more groups share the same goal that we are able to break down silos to work together, especially in the context of limited resources. #HealthXPH Our advocacy highly benefited from connections.
