One of the big takeaways of this week’s trip to NI is the need to take Irish language out of a sectarian context. Not easy, but must keep trying.

Ye gods, another diversion to AGP. If my 1750 inbound is diverted too, I might just seek asylum in Spain and be done with it.

Dublin went with trams, Belfast went with Gliders, a far cheaper but still effective alternative. Dedicated lanes and drivers freed from interacting with passengers speed the service. A G1 service is seen here at Stormont.

BA would have let me through yesterday with just a driving licence, which Aer Lingus also used to do
February 7, 2026 at 8:59 AM
Yes, this is a change of policy by Aer Lingus, covering all IRL-UK routes
February 7, 2026 at 8:53 AM
Aer Lingus follows Ryanair in demanding a passport on IRL-UK routes despite the Common Travel Area - and UK government’s ETA requirement is a factor

Entering Belfast from Great Britain, you’re reminded that you are, at least in part, re-entering EU jurisdiction

Sanchez is right: the choice is btwn "becoming closed & impoverished societies or open & prosperous ones". In the Routledge Guide to the European Union, 2nd ed, I wrote that countries discouraging migrants wd be losers; those that welcomed them & fitted them into economies & societies wd be winners.
🚨🚨" Some leaders have chosen to hunt them down and deport them through operations that are both unlawful and cruel. My government has chosen a different way: a fast and simple path to regularize their immigration status." Spanish PM Pedro #Sanchez on why #migrants are essential for Western society:

EU-UK relations: Will 2026 be the year to reset the reset?
A lot has changed in the world since the UK voted to leave the EU in 2016. In response, the UK and EU need to be more willing to change fundamental aspects of their post-Brexit relationship.
