These are stats from England. I worry what it looks like for Scotland. I’m glad Angus Council now has a focus on housing after repeated requests to declare a housing emergency. It’s a huge issue to fix but is one councils need to prioritise.
There are some stories which no matter how obvious, how inevitable under current systems, still create a visceral reaction.
We have rising levels of poverty and homelessness, including among children. This should be a far bigger focus for government investment. #r4today

Temporary housing linked to deaths of at least 74 children
Official data show that 58 of those children were babies under the age of one.

Starting 2025 with a pre school breakfast club that has closed due to lack of staff. This means I can’t get to work on time, can’t take the bus and then there’s no parking when I do arrive because I am late so I have to drive about and then use the council parking which costs £10 per day.

There are two places in the UK (no I am going to say the WORLD) where you can reliably get excellent tea. This is certainly the best tea on public transport by miles. I pick this train for the tea. The other place you can get a reliable good cup of tea is Greggs. Can you tell I have a day off?

A brilliant (and motivating) start to the day.
A real honour to address Scottish Labour Women’s Conference on the importance of women in politics.

At the general election Labour elected more female MPs than the Tories have ever had in their Party’s history.

But we’re not done yet, the fight for equality continues🌹

Whatever the outcome of the debate today in Westminster it is good to talk more about death. It is good to debate this. It’s good to think deeply about it. I hope it also encourages people to speak about death within their own families.

The current Scottish government isn’t delivering for the NHS in Scotland.
Over the last year, most measures of waiting times have worsened in Scotland, while most measures have improved in England.

Kettling is not just a police tactic. At its core, current social media platforms compete with each other to gather together and keep as many eyeballs as possible. Their aim is to own the largest basket of eyeballs than anyone else and rent them out.

AT Protocol has the potential to disrupt that.
Musk admitted X throttles links, and Threads is only a little better. But social media's quiet war on links has been going on for years. I wrote about how big tech has been draining the open web's lifeblood and giving us "news influencers" instead of the news. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Alright, folks, we need to stop repeating the misconception that "Bluesky has no algorithm."

Bluesky actually has many, many algorithms. Probably more than any of the other popular social media platforms that are out there.
