News from Finland. A 9-year-old lost an especially good stick he’d had since he was 2. He hung up 20 posters. A few days later it was returned. It had been found by a 2-year-old, who wanted to keep it for herself, but her mother made her return it. She got toys, flowers and candy as a reward.

a wacky idea i unironically believe is that dead suburban shopping malls should all be turned into small public commuter colleges. most non-anchor stores are a decent size to be a classroom, parking/road access is already there, you even have a food court
America's special problem is that we built our post-war society entirely around shopping, and then we moved the shopping online.

How to record ICE:

1) Record from a safe distance. DO NOT INTERVENE.
2) Put the DATE, TIME, & LOCATION on the video.
3) Ask for NAMES & BIRTHDAYS
4) CONTEXT, how many people were taken? What happened? How?
5) If possible, document vehicles used and agents, even if masked.

I am absolutely shocked and gutted. We just talked a couple months ago and I was hoping to see him soon. He was the best person you could ever spend time with in New Orleans, always a wonderful host and someone who showed me how great second lines are. RIP Pableaux. I’ll miss your mixtapes too.
Pableaux Johnson, great photographer and even better person passed away at the second line today. RIP 🙏🏼

The couch to 5k running program slowly builds endurance with about 16 hours of running spread over 9 weeks.

Every year, my town has a turkey trot at 9am on Thanksgiving.

So, at 5pm yesterday I began running nonstop so that by 9am today I should be fully trained in the most efficient way possible

I just flew across the country and hearing people cleaning planes only get $12-19/hr is WILD when every traveler pays several hundred or thousands of dollars to be past security.

Double their pay, at least. https://apnews.com/article/charlotte-airport-workers-strike-3a00ed15aedfdd8b5e2383feab53cb5a

My wife & I flew to Kansas City for the #NWSL women's soccer championship but our hotel canceled our reservation and we ended up staying at another place on the Missouri side.

To kill time before tonight's 7pm game we might go see Wicked since we're not in Kansas anymore.

Whenever I catch a glance of any random early 20s dudes checking Instagram as they scroll I usually see a truck, someone failing to jump off something, Charlie Kirk, dense forest, cool sunset, Joe Rogan, a clean truck, etc
Zoomer men are radicalized by manosphere fascist propaganda. There's no question about that. The question is what to do about it.

I could spend all day staring into The Void, wondering if we'll still live in a democracy next week, but instead I wrote up reviews of the best things in my house that I consider total game changers. Enjoy.

I voted Friday night, dropping my ballot in a box at the county courthouse. They usually count by the next day, but 4d later, still no confirmation of my vote. Maybe there's a backlog, but ballot boxes were torched around Portland so I'm off to the county elections office tomorrow for a new ballot 🤬

RIP Fernando Valenzuela. Only 63! I saw him on TV weeks ago and he looked happy announcing the games for the Spanish broadcast.

Last summer I watched an excellent documentary about Fernando from the LA Times and I can't recommend it enough, it's free on YouTube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dcv...

A big lesson I've learned in middle age is whenever a friend mentions their dog's age is 12+ and/or their parents are older than 85, never EVER ask them about their dog or folks in the future.

Always let them bring the subject up first.

In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have had GenXers building social software 20yrs ago that resulted in today's "doomscrolling" environment.

They grew up on nuclear annihilation drills, getting under desks each month to prepare for incoming Soviet missiles.

I heard new balance was making skate shoes and they feel great, like Vans but with arch support. Every NB shoe gets a number and these are the 440.

Yep, the 440. Wait, the 440? 420 as your skateboarding shoe was RIGHT THERE, new balance
