i look to evolution to either 1) cure humanity of its good/evil approach to community; or 2) cure the earth of the human presence all together.

Attention:

Your tax dollars are paying ICE agents.

End this nonsense now.

Life in Cuba is even worse & no one seems to care.

"Life in Iran sounds absolutely miserable—70 percent food inflation, a worthless currency, and a government that’s bankrupt (I mean financially, but morally too, obviously), all on top of the usual ideological horribleness."
"I can’t be the only one who noted the hideous irony of the president who is now overseeing the killing of American citizens simultaneously threatening to bomb (or do something to) Iran if that nation starts … killing its own citizens."

Which City Will Donald Trump Bomb First: Tehran—or Minneapolis?
The Iran situation is getting hot. The ICE confrontations are intensifying. And we live under a rogue leader constrained only by his own “morality.” This could go anywhere.

There's a lot of hurt, a lot of anger but there are ways to protest, boycott & be heard. Be safe.

Hope you are well today my friend.
Any poetry you feel like you can share?

As we start this day, this week, remember, protest is not enough.
Action is all that matters.
Platitudes & wishes are just that.
Do something to:
Help the unhoused
Feed the hungry
Protect the abused
Assist the foreigner
Aid the poor & oppressed

so true
The hardest thing about it all is you question the values you shared with people you thought you knew.

You question if you even knew them at all..
I knew we were cooked as a society when everyone just sorta decided they were sick of dealing with Covid and everyone just decided to pretend like it wasn't a thing anymore.

Love is not connected to morality.
Nothing says that love requires a long-term, exclusive commitment.
Doing what you believe is right far out weighs the commitment &/or euphoria western culture associates w/ love.

Maybe there isn't a reward at the end of hardships endured.

Love will not, indeed cannot, compensate for mismatched partners.

Accepting this & moving on is in everyone's best interest.

Experiencing the discomfort of moving on is better than the long term harm of staying together.
20 years after every "happily ever after", a collapse occurs.
the human animal is not designed to maintain intimate relationships beyond that time frame.

those who do are the exception not the rule.

recognize when it is time to move & do it with as little animosity as possible.

1) pause before escalating
2) repair rather than defend
3) stay curious as opposed to collapsing into certainty

These skills can be developed.

They are more physiological than intellectual skills, i.e., evolution created the fight or flight pathway.

psychological stretching is required to alter

being smart, being "emotionally intelligent" is not enough to overcome every relationship issue.

life is complex. not everything can be understood or figured out & then filed away as resolved.

accept differences that are not harmful but rather stretching you.

love does not automatically mean enduring neglect, disrespect or abuse.

yes, we need to lower our expectations & increase our level of acceptance, but those things should never be accepted.

we should expect not to be neglected, disrespected or abused by our "familiars".

learn to distinguish btw productive discomfort from real harm - mentally, emotionally, physically, & socially/relationally.

Discomfort is fine.
Genuine pain is nearly always destructive & requires recovery/repair.

Don't stay in situations where you are being damaged.

easier said than done.

On this date (Jan 8) in 1964, LBJ declared war on poverty.
Yet poverty is everywhere that I turn. Even in the most opulent setting poverty lingers in the background - serving.
