When people are talking about genocide it feels like people think of the Holocaust as the archetypical example of genocide, so if a situation doesn't measure up to the Holocaust, it's not really genocide. It's weird; like if we were talking about theme parks, and people were saying 1/2...

Do not stay at a Hyatt hotel. They're running fake "smoking detectors" specifically as a revenue-generating scheme and arbitrarily fining guests $500.

@_ZachGriff: I was just scammed by a @Hyatt hotel — and what I’ve uncovered so far points to a *much* bigger issue. A 🧵 (1/13) It started when I checked out of Hyatt’s Pell Hotel near...

1. Clay Jackson, a Texas lawyer, provided basic legal advice to an immigrant family fearing deportation

Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation"

Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

On March 4, Clay Jackson, an attorney in the Dallas area, was at a gas station near his home when the attendant asked if he would help a local immigrant family.

I went to a protest today. The organizers said 10 times as many people showed as they expected.

I went to this Tesla protest a month ago, and there were only about a dozen people. There's easily a couple hundred people today.

I just had a weird thought. You inherit 23 chromosomes from your father and 23 from your mother, and it's always exactly 50-50. But which 23 you inherit is random. Your mother could give you exactly the 23 she got from her mother. Then you'd be genetically unrelated to your maternal grandfather

I was a member just cause I happened to buy some camping chairs last year. Registering to vote was super easy. This is the article that convinced me to vote 'withold' www.cascadepbs.org/news/2025/03...

Random napkin math: LLMs training sets contain about 15 trillion tokens. At 1$ per word (what Google says is a low-end rate for a magazine article) this means the value of the training set is about 6 trillion dollars (a word is usually 2-3 tokens)

I had been expecting bullshit like this from the Republicans, but I'm surprised how pissed it makes me when I hear about it
For the first time ever I had my identity challenged by an election inspector before they let me cast my vote. The reason? The “T” on my signature was slightly different from the “T” I put on my over decade old voter registration when I moved to PA.
Line already at our small town polling place

Trumps insistence that he was wounded by a bullet is really reminding me of his reaction to his inauguration crowd size. It shouldn't be a big deal - despite the best efforts of the Republican party, most Americans have not been wounded by a bullet. He's just decided that it's important.

I just realized that LLMs are Douglas Adam's Electric Monk. They have read the entire internet, and they believe _all_ of it.
