when i played PC games about a decade and a half ago, changing visual settings had a pretty huge and immediately noticeable impact on image quality. it feels like, in the grand hunt for fidelity, there's no real difference between half the options i can toggle

Canto IX has some generational tunes but Der Ungeziefer Kaiser's theme sticks out to me. it's so genuinely, utterly oppressive, and the distortion to mimic the feeling of a literal roach ocean washing over you was diabolical. fuck.

you can theoretically hop into Nioh with any of the three games but i'm always glad when people choose to start with Nioh 1; there's a reason that was the game that sparked my obsession with this franchise in the first place

i posted this, took a few days off, and honestlyyyy i don't feel any better. i'm at a stage where i'm actively and consciously faking my emotions in order to mask the fact that all i feel is a yawning despair at the world becoming increasingly shittier.
technology might be becoming irreversibly enshittified, the wealthy continue to escape justice for crimes that would see a commoner skinned and boiled alive in sugar water, global warming is cooking us alive, the planet is undergoing a seismic democratic backslide, and it's too expensive to live

what we're really learning from the Kiwami 3 debacle is that people may have an overinflated and unrealistic idea of how progressive Yakuza is; the series has always had terrible gender politics and extremely crass lines said by its protagonists. that K3 is *a new low* is genuinely obscene.

If you've not played Yakuza 3, you can still get it on steam for less than two tenners. I believe you have the power to become normal and play a game that released before 2015.
I also believe you likely have a pal whose PS3 you can borrow if you want to become even more normal.

i adore Nioh 2 but i always felt its level design was a downgrade from 1's immaculate levels (Siege of Osaka my beloved) so i'm glad that Nioh 3 brought back level design

this review is full of slam dunks but finding out that Mine's substory has him doing image rehabilitation of a guy who got imprisoned for seuxal assault made my jaw hit the floor dude.
