Writing, comics, libraries, a million strange obsessions.

Reminder — it’s the last day to contribute to the Alberta gov’t’s survey on book banning (pardon me, “school library standards”) 📚
I know this has been circulated widely, but please take the time to fill out this survey. Students are entitled to intellectual freedom to explore difficult (and sometimes uncomfortable) topics in a safe place like a book: www.alberta.ca/school-libra...
School library standards engagement
Albertans can share input on potential new standards for how Kindergarten to Grade 12 school library materials are selected and managed.

You guys, here's a nerdy secret: I really like writing research ethics applications.

I have been LOVING this show, and I love this character, and this is a really great examination of a the kind of nuanced, knowledgeable portrayal of neurodivergence we (sadly) don't get to see often enough in media:

This is a really exciting development! Co-editing this issue was one of the loveliest projects I've had the opportunity to work on:
Happy to see Library Trends’ issue 70 (4), “Joy of Information,” now permanently available OA via the Illinois Library’s repository, IDEALS. www.ideals.illinois.edu/collections/... Thanks again to @haileysiracky.bsky.social & Jenna Hartel for choosing @sarahpolk.bsky.social & my “Love is a Lens” ♥️

I don't know about others, but for me: it's rare that I can focus on one creative or academic project at the same time.

Everything always seems to happen at once.

Wondering what it would be like to embrace this instead of resist it, or try to find fun in the chaos of it, rather than anxiety.

Firefly squids (Watasenia scintillans) have an absolutely stunning display of bioluminescence. Their bodies are covered in blue and green photophores.

They are also the only squid species known to have colour vision.

Once in a while, I go into a meeting with an instructor I haven't met before, and I notice they have a fancy pen, and they notice I have a fancy pen, and when the meeting is over we both go, "So, I noticed your pen—" and it's the best every time.
