Incredible speech from Armando Iannucci about how the U.K. creative industries are enormously valuable to the economy, including the #BBC. Something Lisa Nandy should listen to and actually champion www.instagram.com/reel/DQrCykU...

wearecreativeuk“The arts aren’t a luxury – they’re an export.”At the Cultural and Creative Industries Pavilion at #Lab25, filmmaker and satirist Armando Iannucci reminded us that the UK’s Creative Industries are not a side note - they are central to our economy and global identity.“The Creative Industries make up 6% of our economy and 7% of our workforce - that’s the GDP equivalent of the oil and car industries combined. If it were an AI system or a weapon system, ministers would be out all around the world trying to sell it.”Our creative skills, talent and studios are world-class, and it’s time they were recognised as such.🎥 Watch the Cultural and Creative Industries Pavilion Programme from #LAB25 through the link in our bio #CreativeUK #ArmandoIannucci #CreativeEconomy #CulturalIndustries

Here’s my tip for the next #DoctorWho - Samuel Blenkin, superb actor from #AlienEarth with a young Tom Baker vibe (and yes, he’s British)

2 years ago, the Whoniverse was born.

2 years. Wow.

Feels like 10!

The BBC gets a lot of stick (wrongly, in my opinion), yet this interview was groundbreaking, historic, and devastating for the Royal Family. It was gloriously promoted again on BBC News at 10 last night. #PrinceAndrew www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Prince Andrew once again proving that the entire Royalty thing isn’t worth having anymore. Let’s chuck it all out with the House of Lords too, and be a proper democracy instead of acting like it’s still 1578. (And no, it actually doesn’t bring in anything like the £ people think)

If you love #DoctorWho then do yourself a favour and indulge in 3.5hrs of three grown men (@docoho44.bsky.social @markraw.bsky.social and Luke Molloy) laughing through an analysis of all of Talons of Weng-Chiang (while also acknowledging it’s problematic parts) open.spotify.com/episode/6HOH...

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Kemi Badenoch delivered a very good speech. I don't trust her, would never vote for her, and 14 years proved how much the Tories truly care about the country, but someone's had some solid coaching.

I wonder if Led By Donkeys has ever had any impact or whether it’s essentially just an expense way of getting applause from people who already agree with them

Farewell to the actor John Woodbine who died today. He was ubiquitous in the film and TV of my childhood appearing in everything from Z Cars, Dr Who and the films The Devils and An American Werewolf in London.

Just as the flawed Online Safety Act doesn't properly protect children and the Digital ID scheme won't stop illegal working, restricting protests will never actually *make* people safer.

You don't solve problems with performative authoritarian policies that sound tough.

Tomorrow, look out for a special #CBeebies video celebrating the many Moon festivals happening, including the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chuseok, and Tsukimi. I wrote, directed and produced this, with my friend making the mooncakes. (Better photos tomorrow too!)

British politics is basically a doom spiral of increasingly unhinged hostile policies.

Reform says something unhinged

Labour counters with their own unhinged policy

Tories shout from back they'll be even more unhinged

Reform announces different unhinged proposal in response
