Whoever controls chips, clouds, data, and standards will control the future.

New open journal from AACE: AI-Enhanced Learning (with a paper from me)
The Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Learning (AIEL), a diamond open-access journal published under the auspices of AACE and distributed worldwide through LearnTechLib has just launched its inaugural issue, which includes a paper from me (Cognitive Santa Claus Machines and the Tacit Curriculum). This inaugural issue is a great start to what I think will come to be recognized as a leading journal in the field of AI and education.

I don’t give a shit about being blocked, I wish more people would block or mute me. What I wish people would do is actually understand what kinds of AI critique would be effective, and it starts with engaging with the actual people in their lives who use these tools today. But people refuse to.

this is the really ineffective head-in-the-sand reaction a lot of folks on Bluesky tend to have if you talk about any harm reduction-based approach to the reality that millions of people are using AI tools today. The current approach to critiquing AI is obviously not working, but they don't care.

OpenEvidence developed a new AI system that accurately answers each question + also teaches the reasoning behind each answer, providing accurate references using gold-standard sources of medical knowledge.
OpenEvidence - OpenEvidence Creates the First AI in History to Score a Perfect 100% on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)
Knowledge-based assessments remain a foundation of medical education. However, leveraging these resources for learning requires detailed and verifiable feedback.

Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

“Can ChatGPT experience joy or suffering? Does Gemini deserve human rights?” our tech columnist asks. “Many A.I. experts I know would say no, not yet, not even close. But I was intrigued.”
Should We Start Taking the Welfare of A.I. Seriously?
As artificial intelligence systems become smarter, one A.I. company is trying to figure out what to do if they become conscious.
