They’ve overplayed racism. I don’t recall who said it describing racism in WV, but it’s apt for most: racism is a mile wide but only an inch deep. For most it is background music, not the main event.

I sometimes vaguely wonder how MAGA family will respond when/if they come for me. Will they console themselves that I “brought it on myself” by not sitting down and shutting up? Will I be among the villains in their stories? A cautionary tale that reinforces the ethos of obedience?

They have framed immigration enforcement as a “war”, and then imagined any person not in uniform a potential enemy combatant. I don’t think there is a way to unwind that.
