The debates about hitters (e.g., for HOF) often come down to WAR vs. Hits (or BA). There is a variance between WAR and H & BA, so I wondered what the correlation was.

I took the top-200 in Rbat, and examined:
WAR
WAR per PA
Rbat (the hitting component of WAR)
Rbat/PA
H
BA (H/AB)

I've said this before, but Kuminga reminds me of the classic 1970s PFs: McAdoo, Haywood, Wicks, Hawkins. Exciting scoring (but not much D).

Hit by pitch?!

1) Ball hit bat first.
2) Even if 1) is wrong: Why is it a HBP when you stick your hand in the strike and the ball hits it?

Great article by Kirk G.
In the final installment of the Ringer's Quarter-Century project, Kirk Goldsberry unleashes his awesome charts to explain the last 25 years of the NBA:
Seven Charts That Explain the Past 25 Years of the NBA
It’s hard to grasp just how much the league has changed this quarter century. You almost have to see it to believe it.

In postseason history, teams to win Game 1 in any best-of-five series have gone on to win the series 113 of 156 times (72.4%)

In Division Series with the current 2-2-1 format, teams to win Game 1 on the road have advanced 34 of 46 times (73.9%)

Logically, I'd think if a team on 4th down blocks a punt through the end zone, that should be a touchback and that team should get the ball on the 20-yard line. But they should not get a safety.

The NCAA and/or the NFL need to pay me $200k per season. In exchange, I promise I will complete all reviews of close calls in under a minute. 90% of calls will require no more than two angles to review and will be decided in under 30 seconds. My accuracy rate will equal or exceed the current rate.

Bonus Hollander POTD Rickey Green. Michigan PG drafted 16th in 77 but didn't stick. Was CBA player in 79 until UTA signed him + became good starter. Was an all-star in 84, led NBA in steals. Lost job to Stockton + bounced around as backup til 92.

Kevin Garnett is the only player in NBA history who is a franchise’s all-time leader in total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo needs 82 steals to become the second player to achieve this.

Brees was an easy HOF choice. But Rivers is more interesting because he's in the tier below Brees.

I think Rivers deserves it. But if he does, then so do Ben R., Ryan, Stafford, and Wilson. Eli has his supporters, too (Rodgers, in a higher tier, is a lock).

But I doubt that they'll all get in.

Bonus Hollander POTD Kiki Vandeweghe. UCLA SF was drafted 11th in 80 by DAL but forced trade to DEN. Scored a ton (peak 29.4 ppg) but was not a defender. Traded to POR in 84 in a big deal that DEN got good return. Retired in 93. Was NJ GM & now works for NBA office.

Hollinger POTD Manu Ginobili. Argentinian SG was drafted 57th by SA in 99. Stayed in Europe til 02 & was great. Took to the NBA well. Pretty good as rook & became star 2-way player, 2x all-star. Per bio, rookie Manu "may have the best hands I've ever seen" and stripped dribblers with ease. HOFer.

I'm not going to read this. But it's terrible that the use of "(dis)honorable" is going beyond cheating to include legal tactics that help your team win, e.g., rushing as a QB, talking walks as a hitter, and drawing legitimate fouls on defenders.
An honorable quarterback tends to make creative plays within the pocket, throw with anticipation and take risks.

Those who rely on scrambling, specific offenses and throws to play their game are marked down on this list.

Presenting The Quarterback Honorability Index:
