Just finished watching the first episode of Starfleet Academy, and I've gotta say that as far as pilot episodes go, this one did a great job of introducing everyone nicely.
Also the USS Athena being a learning ship with 4 outward facing viewscreens is a really nice touch and makes so much sense.
