Almost 100k code written in the last 6 months. Spinning up a brand new system is a lot of work. I am very ready for some leave.

Nothing infuriates more than corporate acronyms. You mean to tell me you won't learn what "variance" means but get bleak at me for not caring what "EBIDTADSA" and "w/c" means? How about we circle back to this when you can tell me what a Hausdorff space is.

I am so pleased that this is a colourful control unit. It is jut a shame that the stand did not come with the same colourway.

You can really just email an industrial equipment manufacturer/supplier and ask them to sell you something. Now I have a reasonably nice soldering iron on the way.

Whenever I see a creator getting piled on for using (or being suspected of using) AI, all I can think about is how we're willfully making the destruction of our industry as painless and convenient as possible for billionaires and VC firms.
My literal 14 year old niece has complained about people demanding to know if her art is AI.

At some point people need to stop and take stock of the harm they are doing by pointing fingers without reasonable proof.
If you consistently ask artists if their work is generative AI, you're actually being more discouraging than generative AI is.

Gonna get my proat on. Decided to get DSP specific prototyping boards, instead of fiddling with the STM Discovery boards I have lying around.

SPAs were a mistake.

An uncontroversial opinion that I hold is that _at the very least_, we should have free movement with our direct neighbours. There is no reason that Zimbabweans need to be exploited when they come to work here.

Optimising markup for token efficiency is really the stupidest direction we can go in. Fucking hell.

I'm gonna tell you about a guy named Peter. He called for support often and it wasn't stupid stuff. But it was complex.

He drove a BMW. He was divorced. He was of course a sales person. Probably the most successful sales person in California and maybe the country.

He serviced the government.
You meet the users where they are to stop them doing the stupidest shit imaginable.

You have no idea how much this paid off. The number of infected media players people downloaded in the age before Windows Media Player had more than three codecs is unimaginable

Who knows if I saved the firm

I was perusing softsynths that I don't want to buy and looked at Reaktor from NI. They just have this page:
www.native-instruments.com/en/products/...

This is so cool

As a treat I got myself building blocks and syntorial from audible genius and I would like to put it on the record that I am not an audible genius. This shit is hard.

Update on this, turns out the the data can be in formats even more fucked up than I could imagine; and I can imagine a vector space of cows.

Excel is the bane of my existence. Nothing fucks up my day more than someone asking me to do data analysis from data in a spreadsheet because I absolutely know that it will be in the most fucked up format imaginable.

If I may present an alternative opinion on cloud outages:

Occasional short reminders of fragility in centralization and smoke-testing of our societal systems with effectively inconsequential events, is important.

There is going to be day gigaoutage culminates, due to lack of minoroutage warnings.

This isn't a fully formed thought yet, but I think there is a difference between programming and tech. I program like my mother knits or crochets, and the spaces that I grew up in (like IRC) also had this mentality. This is juxtaposed to tech where the primary drive is to make money at all costs.

Choosing a Password Manager
Password breaches are a common occurrence, and if you use the same password on every site, that may grant access to bad actors who try out that password elsewhere to get into your accounts. The best way to protect yourself is to use a unique password everywhere (and two-factor authentication,...

Packing is arguably my least favourite thing to do. If I had an inequitable amount of wealth, I would just never pack. The flaw in that plan, naturally is that I also hate shopping. So the solution that I'm leaning to is to just not travel.

@techconnectify.bsky.social Since No-effort November is looming and you did a video on digital pianos 3y ago, I think you may just have an excuse to look at an electric piano. They're just neat

Do you know what would be funny? If in my life-time we went from pre-indexed internet where you had to be in IRC and bulletin boards to find websites, to a post-google-indexing internet where you have to be on IRC and bulletin boards to find websites.
