Antifragility in system design remains the goal. The ever-elusive, just-out-of-reach goal. We'll get there someday, hopefully not too far in the future.

Happy New Year 🎊 2025 is going to bring a lot of challenges - which we'll all have to meet. But none of us have to do that alone 😊 we all have to remember that.

I've been catching up on podcasts - Behind the Bastards in this case - and how have I never come across Ed Zitron's "Better Offline" podcast before!?

Everything I rant about 🤣 which I admit is not unique, but the rot goes deeper...

Foundational fix to the system, or more duct tape and prayers? Why does short term thinking win every time?

...

I know why, I'm just frustrated 🤣

Was just about to post something similar 🤣 dunno how the crypto bros are finding me.
Just FYI:

If you haven't figured it out yet (i.e., you haven't looked at my feed at ALL), anyone coming in with a follow or even just reaction who has "AI," "crypto," "Bitcoin" or ANYTHING like that right there in their bio is gonna get a preemptive airlocking.

Try Jesus, not me.

NEW: Bluesky has seen massive growth in the weeks following the US election. There are 24 million users on the social media platform.

With great engagement comes great responsibility, which means Bluesky CEO @jay.bsky.team has a lot to do. She sat down with WIRED to talk about it.
Bluesky Now Has 24 Million Users. Jay Graber Is Still Vowing to Keep It From Enshittification
At WIRED's The Big Interview event, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber discussed the booming user numbers for the Twitter rival and why giving social media users more control is a recipe for success.

Morning routine, post-workout, ideally with coffee.

Quordle (classic -> extreme -> sequence) ➡️ for the warmup.
Wordle ➡️ for bragging rights
Strands ➡️ easy
Connections ➡️ frustratingly American

Maybe Tightropes, maybe Worldle. Kickstart the brain.

Or I have a problem 😆

Question for the Bluesky Product Community: What books would you recommend for product managers and product leads, which are NOT written specifically for PMs.

Think books like "How Big Things Get Done" or "Influence" or "Antifragile".

Sunday evening product management truth. If you spend more time talking about how to prioritise work, which tooling to use, how the team should be set up, which framework to use than you do actually solving problems... Then you are either in a bad company, or you are a bad PM.

Ending the week with a fun article, although at this point I believe every PM has seen it. If not, enjoy!

"Is Product Management a Bullshit Job"?

My opinion: No.

However there is a large amount of bullshit floating around on the daily 🙂

Is Product Management a BS job?
Some PMs in the sector are beginning to question their own work - can we learn lessons from this?

Another day, another framework... Is the only way to establish yourself as a product "thought leader" to try and come up with a new framework for "doing product right"? It's not about celebrating good work... But I'd be very happy to see examples of good work discussed 🙂

#ProductManagement is a constant negotiation. There are always constraints, you can never have everything, so you need to negotiate what’s possible and make trade-off decisions along the way.

This can be especially tough in non-product-orgs.

Another inconvenient product management truth. There are a great many bad product managers in the industry, and the weird attraction of the MBA type to the role does not help. At all. This is not going to help in the coming years.

[Opinion] If you are a PM responsible for a system you should strive to achieve antifragility in the design and implementation of the system. Rigidity can win the short term, but will fail in the long term.

Sunday evening product management truth. Most, if not all, product management books and frameworks are snake oil bullshit. I guess it's because anyone can call themself a product manager. Read wider, research wider, think wider.

I'm in this picture and I don't like it 🤣 upping the gym routine to compensate, or so I tell myself.
I started my holiday baking and I am approximately 20% cookie dough by weight.

(Don't you dare tell me it isn't good for me. Let me have my joy.)

Does anyone else have an ever-increasing pile of unread books that doesn't get put on the shelf because "I'm going to read it!" until eventually you clean up and are left with one, or two, on the pile... only for the process to start again. Just me?

Even as I wonder if hybrid work holds any real benefit, especially for my environmental footprint, I must admit that there's a serenity in the empty office early on a Monday, seeing the rainy city roll out just below and into the distance.
