Day 21, Bronze: The beautiful and tragic monument of auronauts Joseph Croce-Spinelli and Théodore Sivel, lying side by side holding hands. They died in their hot air balloon in 1875 at 28,000 feet from lack of oxygen, and are buried together, recognized as 'martyrs to science'.

The re-use of building stones was not uncommon and is an early example of re-cycling🤣. Here are some examples from the C7th crypt at Hexham Abbey, which were - er - borrowed from Roman buildings along Hadrian’s Wall.

One of the most beautifully carved monuments in Toowong Cemetery is that of Frederick Ness, carved by his brother-in-law, Frank Martin Downes.

Frank was injured when a crane jib broke and struck him at his monumental works. He died that night on 26 August 1918,

A tiny jewel-like window caught in the sunshine at St Andrew's, Barnwell.
The colours and detail are absolutely lovely for such a small piece of glass, the light made the stars around the angels positively glow.
