The worst part about the boat strikes - regardless of who ordered what and besides the ultimate tragedy of lives lost - is they’re forever a stain on the dignity of the United States military.

What compelling reason is there to choose to trade with America when there are alternatives? Why, once agreements with other suppliers are in place, would you ever go back. Once bitten…

Second, more subtle (perhaps bigger): We’ve signaled we’re an unreliable partner, so allies are reorganizing supply chains to avoid us. That's hard to unwind.
