Hi folks, it’s time for a wee introduction! My name is Kristy, and I’m a PhD student in English Literature at the University of Westminster. Here’s a pinned thread regarding my research on ecofeminism and the ecoGothic in contemporary speculative fiction that engages with the climate crisis!
I've finally launched my Substack! I'm in the midst of deadline season, so it'll be a bit slow going this month, but I'm really looking forward to nourishing this space. If you want to follow my research and process, please consider subscribing. substack.com/@strangescho...

Heading back North after a lovely couple of days spent at the Women in World-Literature conference (@womeninworld-lit.bsky.social) at the University of Warwick. Presented a fragment of a current thesis chapter and chaired a fantastic panel all about speculative fiction!

What are you doing this Sunday? What about catching up on some Romancing the Gothic talks?

In April, we were exploring different manifestations of the European Gothic.

Why not check out one of the talks below?

What if worsening climate disruption doesn't act as a wake up call?

An emergent feature of the new climate reality: anger at the failure of incumbent parties to protect us from climate disruption is benefiting political forces that deny climate change and delay action

But we can break this loop 🧵

Absolute joy at finding my first ever ammonite fossil on the beach today! I’ve dreamt of finding one for years and this is such a perfect specimen. Then went on to spot my first ever yellow sea glass. Powerful moments of glimmer when things have felt bleak ✨

Working on an award application for my PhD and it requires two references. The way my heart sunk when I started to write down Justin Edward’s name for referee 2 and stopped 💔

I don’t really feel like I’d have a chance anyways with this application because it’s merit based and I feel merit less.

I’ve never recycled a book that wasn’t damaged before in my life (usually just give them away), but the four books that were on my shelf by this vile person are now, literally, in the (recycling) bin. This was so much worse than I expected.

This Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honour the over 350 trans people killed globally this year, and many more who have died by suicide.

These are the violent consequences of anti-trans extremism.

We won’t rest until everyone in our society has dignity, freedom and safety.

I've made a starter pack for folk horror and folklore. It's pretty bare bones right now--don't hesitate to let me know if you want to be added if you do art, music, fiction, or research. It's being a little glitchy about letting me add people right now, but I'll figure it out!
