alt.vis reviewing has begun! This year we have our highest amount of submissions! By quite a bit! And lots of them are really cool!!

If you're curious, come on down to alt.vis and write a review! reviewing is self-selected & opt-in (chaos/open reviewing)

the special issue is out! please read it and join the discussion — what do YOU think is critical his? have we missed a perspective? how can we grow, learn, and build together?

it’s an excellent set of submissions in two parts
Our two part CG&A issue on critical visualization has been published!! Critical vis considers the context of data and visualization; asking Qs about the way we use and understand data+vis (who is it for? who benefits?). A stellar group of article ime

quick plug for vispubs.com -- it is SO easy to use and a great resource to find publications about visualization. i'm working on my thesis now and it has been beyond helpful.

big shout out to @devlange.bsky.social for making this great repo 🎉

In honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, I wrote this article for republic.com.ng, exploring how African feminist thought invites us to question what it means to be a "feminist human" in an anti-rights era.

As @juusokoponen.bsky.social alerted me today, the Visualizing Knowledge conference in Helsinki 🇫🇮 will be taking place on 6 June.

If you’re a data viz conference enthusiast you could swing over there then bounce straight over to Florida 🇺🇸 for Outlier the week after.

(I’m aiming to get to VK25)

I mean this whole thread is worth reading (esp the part about journalists wanting to make their work accessible but it comes down to those in power)

but this is what got me... let's not cut people off from the news. let's start our designs with accessibility considerations first
The news is for everyone. The news is for you as you age and lose your sight. The news is for your loved ones living with disabilities. The news is for the kid with a disability you saw being bullied in high school. The news is for people you've never met and don't understand. Make it accessible.
