“Critical Spirit” — Dayton Moore, former Kansas City Royals General Manager

An open letter from Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman
Season 4 of Mad Men is basically “Oops! All Bangers” but holy crap “The Suitcase” is a “Smithsonian Permanent Exhibition” level TV episode. Funny, exhilarating, and moving, it pays off 3+ years of buildup and becomes the turning point for the main characters’ arcs for the rest of the series. Bravo

Day of the Dolphin is real, and from what I remember, pretty good.

The dolphin creepily saying goodbye near the end is haunting.
This is now my favorite movie tagline of all time

Reached "Shut the Door. Have a Seat" in the Mad Men rewatch. I’m as giddy as Pete Campbell being offered a cup of hot cocoa.

My proposal to do a “hot dog bar” for the last family get together of the season did not go over well.

“Lost” Rewatch observations

S1 is an all-timer. S2 does the rare trick of upping the stakes and weirdness and integrating new characters, but kind of stalls in the second half. S3 is wheel spinning until the finale’s “great moments in TV history” entry. S4 is a hit-and-miss casualty of the strike.

TV commercials that try to make a character happen

Sports team owners blackmailing their communities into building a new stadium so they can control the surrounding area as a means to make money they will not have to share with other teams in the league

At this point, the ACC should give UMass a few million to join as a football only member, and nobody plays BC and UMass in the same year.
NEW: The ACC says 12 teams will play nine ACC games next year, and 5 teams will play eight ACC games, due to contractual obligations and scheduling balance.

Here are the 2026 ACC opponents for everyone:

School bus? What school bus? This discourse is the "let them eat cake" of school transportation.

What is interesting is no extension has been announced. If DeBoer is trying to use the rumors to get a new extension, it has not worked so far.
Kalen DeBoer says he has “not spoken to and (has) no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job.”

Now that’s a nifty little deal. Cheap switch-hitting OF with some OBP skills for Zerpa? Filling a position of great need? Yes please.

As someone who was the target audience when it aired and loved Chris Elliott’s bits on Letterman, this show was fine in small doses but a bit much overall for me. But it’s cool that it’s available now because some people absolutely loved it.
This insane 1990s cult classic sitcom is streaming for the first time ever — watch it now for free

Chris Elliott stars as a dim-witted man-child in the bizarre but hilarious 'Get a Life'

If you hear an old guy waxing nostalgic about Christmas back in his day, just know his dad dropped him off at the mall with $20, he bought his mom the first cheap earrings he saw and his sister a Madonna CD she already had, and spent the rest of the time harassing the Orange Julius salesgirl.

Rewatching the first season of Mad Men, and it's still great of course. It was more fully formed than I recalled, albeit with some bumps here and there. It looks great, except the NY scenes are claustrophobic due to budget, and the set walls sometime move when someone closes or opens a door.

In August 2025, while everyone was fighting over the 4+4+2+2+1 versus 11+5 models, the SEC quietly got the CFP to change its criteria to emphasize new strength of schedule metrics that, not coincidentally, historically favored the SEC.

Alabama secured its slot because the SEC played the long game.

There’s no rule against the CFP committee picking Tulane, James Madison, and Duke. “Importance of conference championships … yadda yadda … what are you gonna do, fire us?”
