Horse racing is still illegal in most Southern states so it costs me a couple thousand dollars just to travel to a track, let alone wager.

Ok, fair, but notwithstanding the law, how many kids did you know in high school who drank alcohol as opposed to how many kids were killed drunk driving? In my HS it was 2 dead out of about 300 drinkers. A minuscule number then as now.
