In interviews, more than a dozen scientists […] said that the U.S. research community has been hit with a bigger shock than the Great Recession in 2008 or the coronavirus pandemic that began in 2020, and that the resulting damage could linger for years.
Trump promised scientific breakthroughs. Researchers say he’s breaking science.
NIH funding for biomedical research has abruptly fallen by billions of dollars, with many grant decisions on hold. Trump officials say they’re reviewing the agency.

A tough but important read.

From the Times:

At least 274 Kenyan workers, mostly women, have died in Saudi Arabia in the past five years — an extraordinary figure for a young work force doing jobs that, in most countries, are considered extremely safe.

"Peaceful opposition is a sacred American right. Congress was meant to hold the presidency to account on behalf of the people. In its absence, the states, business, civil society and the public must occupy that vacancy."

Indeed, key moment in downward spiral was Vance lashing out in response to Zelenskyy's point on diplomacy with Putin

Don’t appease the [aspiring] dictator.

From the Washington Post:

Indeed, Americans seem to be quite concerned by how far Trump is going, and most of his signature policies and initiatives appear to be quite unpopular — especially those spearheaded by billionaire Elon Musk.

I loved Season 1 of “Silo,” and I think Season 2 is just as incredible. It’s full of wonderful, simmering character development. Roger Ebert often wrote that characters must struggle and change to be truly compelling, and this season embodies that terrifically
