The Loud, Cruel End of America’s Fight Against Tuberculosis
On March 24, the world will mark World Tuberculosis Day — though in much of the world, the alarm bells are already ringing. In Harare, Zimbabwe, Nurse Chiedza Makura starts her day with the same…

IMO forcing someone in the moment to put a fake number on something (especially when they aren't numerically confident) distorts what they were trying to communicate.

It's helpful to become more calibrated with numerical estimates but you can lie with numbers just as easily as lying with words.
Now I've come across several instances of people writing, essentially:

'Let me provide a very rough estimate. Don't take this number literally, because it has several flaws.'

And then their number becomes cited as the canonical figure on the topic.

Love to see stuff like this

As a non-researcher, I really value getting an understanding of how mistakes are corrected. Honestly it makes me trust institutions more than if they never admit to being wrong.
But then instead of just writing about how wrong we were (which, to be clear, we absolutely were), Elisabeth, Julia and Sylvia invited us to collaborate - to work together to figure out what we can *actually* learn about voting at 16 in Austria, with better code and much more data.

Saw Heretic at the cinema recently and I was the only 1 out of 4 who liked it.

It's not a good movie - the thread definitely gets lost in the middle.

But I found it spoke to the conflict between rationalised control and awe/personal faith in a visually beautiful way.

Anyone else seen it?
