On Trump’s Bullshit: 'Mexico Will Pay' — The Lie That Built a Wall
The promise was impossible. The math never worked. And every justification since has been pure fiction.

I've written about Trumpian math. His promise of $2,000 tariff checks is another example. Do the math and it would cost something like two or three times the tariff revenue. And to what consequence? Trump also claims the tariffs will reduce the deficit. Not. glennkessler.substack.com/p/on-trumps-...

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Trump tonight on 60 Minutes, touting the impact of his tariffs: "We're bringing back the auto industry into our country."
October auto sales estimated at “just 15.4M, down sharply .. the lowest since June. The underlying weakness in demand has been revealed, now that most purchases designed to avoid tariff-related price hikes have been completed ..”

Trumpian math: “Every one of those boats kills 25,000 Americans,” he tells 60 Minutes. Nine boats in the Caribbean so far since mid-September. That adds up to 225,000 dead Americans. CDC: 76,000 people died of drug overdoses in the most recent 12-month period. 🤔

Please explain why Trump imposed 50-percent tariffs on Brazil, where the US had a trade surplus, because he wanted to interfere with Brazilian public policy (ie, the trial of Bolsonaro)
BREAM: How do trade talks get back on with Canada?

BESSENT: We'll see. This is very serious. The prime minister of Ontario, who I imagine is smarting quite a bit from the Blue Jays loss, spent $75 million interfering in US public policy. A price has got to be paid for this.

How a young Jefferson’s plea to the King helped ignite America’s fight for independence
In the summer of 1774 Jefferson retreated to Monticello and wrote a secret plea meant to avert disputes with the British — a document that instead helped set America on the path to independence.

Reframing history through the eyes of women taught me so much - and I have shelves of books on the Boshevik revolution that shamefully left women out of the story. A necessary corrective. Bravo!
