When one chooses to take a 5 minute cab ride instead of what could have been a very direct 20 minute bus ride because of the real risk of sidewalks being too icy, that's a huge problem for mobility in winter. I can afford the extra $10 on top of the bus fare, not everyone can all the time.

My carry on luggage, my original one from when I immigrated and I have personalized the design, is officially too big based on the airline guidelines! 😭
Not looking forward to shopping for a teenier one.

The playlist at the City Hall rink was perfect for newbie skaters!

90s power ballads
00's inspirational pop songs
The melodic dance instructor inside City Hall teaching people to square dance.

Maybe I'll finally let go of the guides while "My Heart will Go On" is blasting at the speakers. 🤣

An Edmonton bus shelter and greasy spoon diner you may know. I love the way this spruce turned out and I love making wee little lettering. #yegart

Friendly PSA: remember exactly where in your utility room you placed your smoke detector, so you don't get grouchy in the middle of the night searching for that "mysterious beeping noise that something is low battery".
Ask me and my husband how we know. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️

First time seeing this in my groceries! Has this be on more products lately?

Yes - they don't aim to plow residential streets down to bare pavement, they aim for a graded 5cm snowpack, but that only happens after they're done arterials. If it snows again, it gets reset and they do arterials again. It's very bad for anyone not in a car.

When I worked at a different library branch, I used to visit a women’s shelter for monthly storytimes. They were generally chaos as the kids were new to storytime structure. I never thought the kids got much out of it until the coordinator told me a story that proved me wrong.

I think I'm going to have to walk/ETS tomorrow. This was my commute home today. Videos pulled from my Stories (thus the abrupt end).

Every winter this section floods. Snow and snow maintenance will be why I stop winter commuting.

It's quite strange to be the primary target demographic for marketing purposes. Stores and even public events are blasting tunes from my young adult years.
I definitely felt inspired skating at the public rink downtown while listening to 'No One' and 'Gangnam Style'.

Attending a #TRBAM workshop today on "transforming the rider experience with innovation." I'm hoping we get into a meaty discussion of what innovation and tech can solve for -- as well as when tech and AI are just window dressing, or more sinisterly, pull resources away from the real solutions.

I teach bystander intervention for a living and have taught de-escalation to law enforcement.

Trust me when I say that bottle girls, gas station clerks, strippers, front desk employees at hotels and airports, baristas, etc. have better de-escalation skills than any cop I've ever seen.

Today is my husband's bike to work day and he came home injured! He hurt his shoulder trying to help push a car stuck in the snow. 👀 We're hoping it's not dislocated!

Happy New Year! 🥳
The husband-and-wife annual Budget Deliberation Day meeting was a success! It was nice to have a chance to see where we spent too much, not as much, spending plans for the year and calculate our individual and joint net worth. It's surprisingly romantic!

Resolutions are better set up during one's birthday than in the New Year. It's more personal and also less pressure.

Friendly PSA: this is the time to review and purge your phone of photos and apps that you don't need! I had to delete and backup my stuff since I'm giving my old phone to my brother and OMG I didn't realize how may THOUSANDS of photos I have every year!

So glad that this option is very doable so my husband didn't have to drive tonight.

The Christmas alphabet has Noel.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 24: a project I literally started last night and might finish today! Upycling fabric creatively is something I really enjoy. This is a fidget quilt for seniors with dementia. I made one for my MIL years ago and I hope to make more to donate. 🥰
