Even the youngest consumers of this pondwater must know the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in Lake Superior 50 years ago today. The ship was, at her launch in 1958, the largest man-made object ever put into fresh water. When my family saw the Fitzgerald passing through the locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in 1974 or 1975, she was surely the biggest thing I'd ever seen, and I never forgot her---or the sight of a few crewmen high above us at her rail, some or all of whom may have gone to the bottom with her.

So, @rossonradio.com, I'm sure you've ruled on this before but I believe the Ghostbusters theme is a year-round hit, like Thriller. Neither the song nor the movie are Halloween-based. But I feel like most radio stations disagree, so what say you?

It’s great to re-visit the original of what has become a rock and roll classic. (Pearl Jam, The Sonics, The Who, Motörhead, etc.)
It took me about 15 months to type the history of the R&B charts into a spreadsheet so that I could organize by the date the song entered the charts.

I enjoyed the movie well enough but what I really noticed was how great it was to hear music that’s not just an mp3 on my phone. I might start breaking out my CDs again once in a while for a richer experience.
