I vividly remember @philipjcowley.bsky.social getting us to read the Hansard debates for **every** parliamentary free moral issue free vote from 1900-2007. A wild ride.
First book I ever did was on the way parliament dealt with "conscience" issues.

One of the things it noted was how the PMB had declined as the main vehicle for resolving such issues, being replaced by legislation introduced by the government, but with MPs allowed free votes.
