I'm always interested in seeing how supermarkets embrace new technology, from self checkouts to face tracking. Now Migro (a Swiss supermarket chain) has introduced a scanner that tells shoppers how 'ripe' the avocados are.

Swiss supermarket Migros has installed new scanners in two of its stores in Zurich, which are able to tell the ripeness of the avocados on display.

Running a charity fundraising campaign online? Campaigns are more effective at raising funds when they show a photo of someone helping themselves, rather than appearing as a victim and helpless.

When it comes to online shopping, more and more people are ordering using their smartphones or tablet. And if you're a shopper who likes touching a product before buying, this change increases the odds that you'll buy something online.

If you analyse the sales data, it looks like special offers work. But in reality, you're not steeling market share from your competition, instead the majority of the sales increase comes from shoppers stockpiling. #ConsumerPsych

It's the new year, which means I have a new budget. What's are the best consumer psych or marketing science conferences to attend? This year the plan is to get out and meet far more people! (Bonus points if anybody can suggest any conferences in a ski resort....)

Social norms form the bedrock of lots of behavioural science interventions, but how can you use it when you're trying to promote unpopular behaviour (e.g. encourage people to eat a vegetarian diet where only 10% of the population are vegetarian)?
