Another ridiculous move by the government granting Luton airport expansion, continuing to fly in the face of climate commitments.

We stand in solidarity with Luton campaigners working to stop this expansion.
Planning inspectors recommended that Luton airport expansion should not go ahead on environmental grounds.

The government approved it anyway.

"The promise of thousands of additional jobs had outweighed environmental considerations."

Outside the Royal Courts of Justice today calling out the govts foolish Jet Zero strategy.
Supposed green solutions don't exist & we need to reduce our emissions to prevent the worst impacts of climate breakdown - the govt must rewrite the strategy & stop growth in aviation.

Can you help us tell the government not to expand airports?
The Climate Change Committee is clear: there should be no net airport expansion if we are to meet our legally-binding climate targets. UK airports are big enough. Stop Airport Expansion.

And now the transport minister is "minded to approve" a second runway at Gatwick.

The Planning Inspectorate recommended REFUSAL of this in November for various reasons including that the greenhouse gas emissions will affect our ability to meet carbon targets.

With Gatwick's expansion decision looming, remember that airport expansion is incompatible with the government's legally binding commitments on climate and air quality, and claims of any economic benefits are based on dubious arguments.

New runways at London airports would result in cumulative emissions of around 92m tonnes of extra CO2e by 2050, if the number of flights increases in line with their operating company targets.
