Passionate about science and research, focused and determined (stubborn?), enthusiast, and senselessly optimistic. I believe in human nature and believe that the study of society is the pathways to make us better human beings.

@gabilombardo.bsky.social says Europe's research priorities must align with reality. As FP10 talk progress, it's clear tech alone can't address today’s challenges. Research should focus on people, integrating social sciences and humanities for genuine innovation, democracy, and peace.
Viewpoint: Europe’s research priorities must catch up with reality
As Europe transitions into summer, the heat is rising in the debate about the next cycle of its flagship research and innovation Framework Programme. A fundamental question looms: in what kind of…

Thanks for the article. As many say at these days "We are not America!". Europe remains based on social values and its excellence remains research on society and humanities as a proud seal of civilisation.

Quite literally, the most existential problems in 🇺🇸 society right now are things that can ONLY be explained by research that is NOT STEM. Maybe, among the twenty examples of great STEM research, you could bother to feature at least ONE thing on democracy, the economy, international security, etc.?
Tl;dr: STEM is great. UW STEM research is friggin’ incredible. But look around. Everyone is obsessed with democracy, wars, trade wars, politics, inflation, poverty, etc. etc. The case for more, not less, liberal arts education - & research - is as strong as ever. We should talk about that, too!

We need our university leaders to stop doing this ALL THE TIME. It fuels every stereotype & feeds every lazy Narrative™️, & we need you to explain to the public why we need to fund research in the liberal arts as well. And that starts with not pretending it doesn't exist or matter on your websites.
WARF is great & funds so much of the amazing research at UW - Madison. But while I understand the politics & marketing strategy, I do wish the higher-ups realized how much they fuel every popular/media Narrative™️ about what is valuable at universities when the social sciences are barely a footnote.
From bugs to brain imaging, WARF’s support of UW-Madison advances research
“Nothing epitomizes WARF’s philanthropic mission better than the truly inspiring stories of the many researchers we support each year,” says Erik Iverson, CEO of WARF. “The work of our campus’s resear...
