It's insane what is happening. How can Europe help and how can we work with you to prevent similar things to happen in our member states and in Europe? Currently, we are battling to retain a standalone programme for R&I which is a firm commitment and has been so for over 40 years!!

Quite literally, the most existential problems in 🇺🇸 society right now are things that can ONLY be explained by research that is NOT STEM. Maybe, among the twenty examples of great STEM research, you could bother to feature at least ONE thing on democracy, the economy, international security, etc.?
Tl;dr: STEM is great. UW STEM research is friggin’ incredible. But look around. Everyone is obsessed with democracy, wars, trade wars, politics, inflation, poverty, etc. etc. The case for more, not less, liberal arts education - & research - is as strong as ever. We should talk about that, too!

We need our university leaders to stop doing this ALL THE TIME. It fuels every stereotype & feeds every lazy Narrative™️, & we need you to explain to the public why we need to fund research in the liberal arts as well. And that starts with not pretending it doesn't exist or matter on your websites.
WARF is great & funds so much of the amazing research at UW - Madison. But while I understand the politics & marketing strategy, I do wish the higher-ups realized how much they fuel every popular/media Narrative™️ about what is valuable at universities when the social sciences are barely a footnote.
