This film often gets bandied about as "Worst British Film Ever" and I disagree with that. I mean, I'm not saying it's great, but there's any number of shitty 70s sex comedies and rubbish Guy Ritchie knock offs and dull kitchen sink drama and so on.
You can always do worse.

Man, I had genuinely forgotten just how tonally weird and off this film is. Everything about it, the music, the soft TV look, Chris Rea. Just WEIRD.
I'm not going to say Winner never made a good film, but what ones he DID feel rather like flukes.

Lot of great actors in this and... Man, it doesn't deserve them. Excluding late 90s John Cleese of course. At this point, he was pretty much a signifier that what you were about to watch was... Well, probably not great.

Only saw Road Games a couple of years ago when I was on a huge Ozsploitation binge, really, really good, super tense one that I regret not getting to sooner.

I think probably worth pointing out that as far as James Horner's BBTS music goes, this is like... I dunno, only one of many. That and his score for Humanoids From the Deep (ugly monster rape shitfest, never watch) got recycled a LOT.
NEXT: Roger Corman produced WIZARDS OF THE LOST KINGDOM, a very silly sword and sorcery runaround so lazy it reuses James Horner's themes from Battle Beyond The Stars. Join #thefilmcrowd this Monday from 8pm.
