As we head rapidly to extinction we are still grappling with the great moral debates that have engrossed humanity for millennia. Questions such as , Is genocide good or bad?, Is famine essential?, Do we need more torture?, Can poor people feel pain? Our best minds grappled well but got no medal.

These religious paradigms have persisted in various forms over thousands of years. Education and the efforts to introduce scientific thinking/philosophy to us, the great unwashed, via libraries and public schooling, has been thwarted by religious interventionism. It is as remarkable as it is sad.
As an atheist I’m more afraid that their bullshit won’t be called out.

Dogmatism and intolerance has long been the hallmark of major religions but a certain 'sanity' inherent in democratic governments has kept it at bay ... somewhat. Until now however, where we see the remarkable transition in the US from a stable democracy to an unprecedented medieval-like tyranny.
Anyone whose faith or worldview doesn't align with that of Christian nationalists (and that includes more tolerant Christians) will suffer if such a dogmatic, intolerant, radical religious movement gains ground. We will lose hard-won human rights - it's already happening in the US.
