Me, Laurel, Brian, and Mary played the Newlywed Game on Brian's podcast last week, it was a lot of fun.

Reminiscent of 1970s gameshows. You know, when they drank, smoked, cussed, etc, on air which were the best of all gameshows.
Hijinks ensue, chaos reigns, and things go terribly awry when Brian Keene and @marysangiovanni.bsky.social face off against @laurelhightower.bsky.social and @frank212.bsky.social in a Keeneversations version of The Newlywed Game! Which couple knows each other better?

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite writers, the singular, Lucia Berlin. Queen of grit.

Poor people wait a lot. Welfare, unemployment lines, laundromats, phone booths, emergency rooms, jails"

Happy birthday to the one-of-a-kind, Kurt Vonnegut

Also, Veterans Day, added a photo of Kurt from WW2. His experiences as a POW, having witnessed the bombing of Dresden, inspired nearly everything he wrote

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be"

Rewatching THE GREAT OUTDOORS because I love John Candy & it's a classic and hilarious.

The movie came out in 1988, & I've been singing the damn raccoon song from the movie to myself for the last 36 years. Why? I dunno, I'm not right in the head. "Ba ba ba boom. Ba ba ba boom."

Happy Birthday to the singular Sam Shepard. I consider the man's writing HOLY. He holds a special place on my shelves.

“I’ve heard writers talk about “discovering a voice,” but for me that wasn’t a problem. There were so many voices that I didn’t know where to start.”

Happy for the Dem sweep

Mamdani's win is NOT the rise of communism. It's Democratic socialism. Something we lived under from FDR up until GW jr. The rich still rich, but the working class lived a decent life too. My grandpa, a janitor, could afford a decent home, feed his kids

Movie # 2 of my HALLOWEEN movie marathon

Rewatching THE THING. Not only one of my favorite horror films, but a favorite film in general. It's a perfect movie. Every part of it, from wardrobe to dialogue, and everything in between, complete perfection 👌

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Do something fun and spooky!

Officially on vacation as of 20 minutes ago. Guess I'll eat tacos & watch a horror movie. PSYCHO 2 tonight. Surprisingly not a bad sequel.

Things to do tomorrow to prepare for my trip Saturday. Excited!

I loved Don Carpenter's HARD RAIN FALLING so much, I picked up his HOLLYWOOD TRILOGY. It arrived today. It has three short novels in one book. I'm looking forward to reading about 70s B movie trash characters; the sleezy; the vulgar; the cons, failed comics, the murderous, etc etc.

Only 80s Tom Atkins with his feathered hair, and mustache, could get away with playing a doctor who wears a classic white lab coat, but with disco red shirt unbuttoned below the chest underneath.

There was so much damn cocaine in the 80s. So much!

Holding back SNAP benefits roughly three weeks from Thanksgiving is the most Trump thing of all Trump things imaginable

Little over a decade ago, when I was on disability for close to a year, I was on Snap. They are there to help ppl, bridge a gap. It's called care, being human, humane.

Happy Birthday to the singular, Nick Tosches, whose fiction, essays & bios I LOVE. Adored his way w word more than most.

"I think the desire to be free has mutated, & we now live in an era when the slaves celebrate their slavery - this whole corporate concept of being part of a 'team' at work"

Okay, I've been watching subpar horror of late. With 10 days to Halloween, it's time to bust out the classics.

Only ONE mastermind team could've pulled off that jewel heist at the Louvre yesterday.

Obviously team, it's K-k-k-Ken! C-c-c-coming to K-k-k-kill me!

I got home from work, and this little slice of 1930s Thomas Pynchon P.I. noir was waiting for me on the doorstep.

The guy is 89 years old & still dropping solid books. Hopefully, this one will be great.

Hey, pals, I'm doing an AMA over at reddit/horrorlit on Oct. 20 from 3-5 pm, but it's up now so people can ask questions even if they can't be there on Monday afternoon.

Yo, I hear everyone who protests is getting paid nowadays. Anyone know where I can get an application? I'd love to go out, hold a sign, and get paid for telling someone I loathe to go fuck himself.

It's kind of neat, that a never published, lost Kerouac story, 'The Holy, Beat, and Crazy Next Thing,' was discovered at an auction for the former head of the Gambino Crime Family, Paul Castellano. WILD!
