Saying the calendar is an example of American exceptionalism as opposed to things like a salary cap or not having a genuine soccer pyramid, pro/rel or balanced schedule is maybe the most disingenuous thing Don Garber’s ever said. And we don’t throw that around lightly.
"Being one of the few that isn’t aligned with the international calendar has us almost have an American exceptionalism," Don Garber said. "Saying that we’re going to play the game the way we want to play it, as opposed to the way the rest of the world plays it."

MLS will move to a winter-centric schedule in 2027
The plan is for the 2027-28 campaign to start in late July, stop from mid-December to mid-February, resume the regular season through April, then have the playoffs in May.
