To achieve #30x30 governments need to first protect those who depend on the ocean for their livelihoods. Implementation has to centre equity with small scale fishers for marine protection to be fair and effective. @riseup4theocean.bsky.social #UNOC3

There is something horribly sobering about this.

The deep sea abyssal plains of the Pacific have existed basically unchanged for roughly 80 million years. Over a period of just a couple of weeks in 1979, we changed it during an experimental mining operation.
