mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)

I was a UC PPFP fellow when I was a postdoc at UCSD. This program is invaluable--aside from support for two years of my postdoc, I received excellent mentoring from faculty at the UCs. This fellowship set me up for success and gave me a cohort of fellow postdocs who are now UC faculty. 1/2
A devastating set of decisions on the part of UC leadership to withdraw support from our nationally recognized postdoc program that prioritizes research excellence combined with addressing our university public service mission. www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...
UC to Stop Funding Systemwide Postdoc Program
Established in 1984 to encourage women and minority Ph.D.s to pursue academia, the program has attracted right-wing criticism for prioritizing diverse candidates.

I'm trying to identify seminal papers that have reshaped our understanding of brain-body connections (could be in any system).
Which papers come to mind?

A reminder that Zohran won IN SPITE OF his party and not because of it. This matters because while Democrats like Schumer and Jeffries might SAY "Vote Blue No Matter Who" and "Party Unity," they LITERALLY found it easier to go to bat for a guy with a Nazi tat than Mamdani. They will not accept this.

Mamdani going so hard for trans right and winning is some juicy proof that every dem that abandoned us didn’t do it for politically advantageous reasons. They did it because they’re transphobes and they will lose for it

Scaling back DEI isn’t just a moral setback—it’s a loss of innovation.

Higher ed and science journalists - this is the first report I've seen that the UC is thinking about cutting their internal postdoc program, which has been a roaring success. Something to look into?
UC Provost Katherine Newman has announced plans to defund this program, a preemptive capitulation with the feds that has not been ordered and should not occur. Newman has done this with zero consultation with campus-level leadership and none with any faculty — mentors or former fellows included.

The President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, PPFP, has been a jewel in the crown for faculty development and recruitment at the University of California for years and the results have been an expanded faculty with almost 100% tenure rates — unprecedented success.

After 13 years in the US, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave. Having packed up everything and rethought about priorities, rather painstakingly, while I’m sad to leave the life I’ve made here, I’m also relieved that I won’t have to plan my life around immigration policies anymore.

In the end, it wasn’t a hard decision for the PSF to put our community and our values first, but it does mean we lost out on this large funding source. Donations and sponsorships will help us fill the gap, so we can continue supporting the Python ecosystem and living our values.
