RPG tip from the archive: Don't try to circumvent the ability of the PCs. Let them enjoy their asymmetric advantages and overpowered abilities.

Scott offers wonderful advice here!

And timely for me too as I'm putting the final touches on my chapter for how to design Dangers and Encounters in Adirondark's Superintendents' Guidebook. And in a wilderness survival horror game... it may be wise to avoid combat.

FRPG GM Tip: Conflict is what drives story much of the time, but conflict in a fantasy game doesn’t always have to mean combat. Conducting a strategy session in which the players and characters come up with a plan to avoid an encounter can be just as much fun as fighting.

Once again Teos Abadia @alphastream.bsky.social offers some great advice!

What are the tv shows that have intro montages you would use to describe this awesome idea to your players? I'm thinking Buffy, Firefly, or X-Files.

My Go-To Technique for RPG Character Intros!

The character montage is my favorite character introduction technique for #DnD or any other #ttrpg . See examples, how to explain it to players, and even how to use it for travel, to resolve a scene, and much more!

Great advice from @dicefunctional.bsky.social ! Be descriptive! Engage all the senses!

From the Adirondark Superintendents' Guidebook:
"Consider what the Explorers will sense first in every scene. Sight is a primary sense but in the wilderness there are so many other possibilities.
Tip for the GMs, writers, and worldbuilders out there;

Describe beyond just sight.

Yes, it's important to describe what is seen*, but there are so many more senses to use and toy with when setting a scene.

*or isn't, depending on the situation

Snowing outside changes things a bit...

Outside in my backyard smoking a pipe, thinking, writing, creating... inspired to think about The Gray.

The Power of wind, weather, stone, and cold — the inanimate parts of nature.

What scares you about The Gray?

Changing from a d20 system to using only d6's is both incredibly exciting and at times frustrating. Instead of 20 things in a table where I want equal odds I need 6 or 36 things. This means so many more possibilities! And... this means I need to write so many more possibilities!

As I get close to publishing a beta of a PHB for my wilderness horror game, "The Adirondark Explorer's Guidebook" I am debating how to organize the order of the various chapters. I am curious how other TTRPG players believe a PHB should be organized.
