Cynical cantilever affixed to reality with whatever's in my pockets.
Typical of the right. When people don't naturally gravitate to their ideology, they have to institute policies that restrict freedom to try and force you to believe their ideology. Like the parent that grounds their kid that keeps trying to run away.

I was just saying this morning that the GOP has long ago adopted a contrarian morality that derives it's stances from opposition to their perceived enemies and then draws an imaginary line to some false equivalent justification. It has no direction but opposite of where we're going.
In both cases, it's not ideologically pro-Trump, but it is structurally reactionary, because it's all about conserving the prestige of a (predominantly white, affluent, highly educated) professional caste at the expense of everything else.

Even reporters repeating the construction “academic elites” as if it’s a real category of people, least of all bad guys, is doing a lot ideologically. Conservatives aren’t opposed to real elites (like them!) in academia, they’re against inroads the rest of us have made to make academia less elite.
“House Republicans are now embarking on an aggressive and expansive investigation into institutions of higher education in America, targeting the academic elites they have long viewed as avatars of cultural decay — all in the name of combating antisemitism.”

It’s so hard to not say we told you so…
TFW the kicker should be the lede.
