For those bleating about ID cards in the UK (the Tories are against them).
In Spain it's a legal requirement to have one (aged 14+). It's not mandatory to carry it at all times, but most do.
The card makes dealing with town halls, the police, health services, buying a car/property etc WAY EASIER.
