President Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), 32nd President of the United States. Just so we are clear: I have been dead since 1945 and the 22nd prevents me from running again. Location: Somewhere between Warm Springs, GA & Hyde Park, NY 🍸FDR
Pinned
Back in '17 I was roused from my slumber when some poltroon suggested that the person about to occupy the White House was using Twitter like "FDR used his Fireside Chats."

That’s what I’m talking about. 🍸

I fully endorse one of these two people… the other, can go pound salt. 🍸
Put it in The Louvre of US political history. The look on Mamdani's face is priceless.

Excuse me, what? 🧐

Tell it to the Blue Eagle and the AAA. 🍸
Bessent on tariffs: "This is one of President Trump's signature policies, and traditionally the Supreme Court does not interfere with a president's signature policy."

Forgive the bags under my eyes... I was busy not caving to the oligarchs and fascists. 🍸
81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

Thank you for remembering. 🍸
With the GOP yet again thinking they’re slurring Dems by calling them “Socialists!” I thought this speech by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the Gridiron Club Dinner, December 14, 1935, would be enlightening—and inspiring.

(Note: light edits for space).

A long 🧵, but, I think, worth it.

The last time a New York politician dominated a new form of media this thoroughly, that New York politician was elected President four times and the form of media was the radio.
Andrew, we're voting you off the island and back to the suburbs.

Our new ad just aired during Survivor.

Good men, both of them. They did honor to the Office. 🍸
If you’re looking for examples to live up to, you could do a lot worse than these two.

As it so happens, I've been reading a bit about the court-packing debacle under FDR. He miscalculated politically but I don't think he was wrong on the merits of going after that Court. And if there's a Democratic president in 2029, they need to be willing to consider similarly drastic measures.

Yeah, sure. Tell me again how we got out of the Great Depression… 🙄 🍸
Trump: "The country had a great depression. And then after the depression, long after it started, they brought back tariffs to see if they could save it. But it took them really 25 years to get out of the great depression. A lot of people don't understand that."

You should probably spend some time learning about the Democrat who stopped fascism - and how he did it. His name was FDR - you should google him.

Look, I made mistakes. Some of them unforgivable…

But my administration never used force to detain a US Senator… and God knows that there were some who needed it (I’m looking at you, Senator Lundeen).

These are the acts of fascists lighting democracy on fire. 🍸

They hate me, and I drink their tears. 🍸
In 1936, FDR closed out his re-election campaign by bragging to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that “organized money” hated him “and I welcome their hatred.” He took 60% of the vote in a 523-8 electoral college landslide.

FDR knew having the right enemies could be a useful thing.

A Prayer on D-Day
June 6th, 1944

My fellow Americans:
Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation.

The low-vision mini exhibits at the FDR Memorial are just delightful. 🗃️

Media can never pass up a moment to equate mobility devices (which Biden was speculated to have needed) with not being capable to do things.
A little confused about this news cycle. Is Biden still president?

The Declaration is a promise which we made to ourselves, but one which we have not always lived up to.

It’s a beacon those fighting for equality could point to and demand that we live up to that promise.

It promises that everyone is entitled rights bc they are human.

And it means no kings. 🍸

We have nothing to fear… but a narcissistic jackanapes.

Regardless, I believe the American people shall prevail.

Cousin Teddy was always a true American patriot. Unlike the lickspittles currently occupying the White House. 🍸
