Yesterday was a hard day to be a scientist. Today? unknown. Doom-scrolling doesn't help me personally, but I understand. For all, here's a photo I took of Southern lights, Aurora Australis, from NBP23-03 somewhere between New Zealand and East #Antarctica. I hope EVERYONE has a better day. 🧪

Thank you @heardislandgov.bsky.social for all you're doing.

I just lost my job, along with most of my coworkers, due to the illegal grant freeze.
I worked at an organization that
-helped veterans who have lost a limb
-Assisted elderly and disabled people
-Helped hospitals better treat people who have lost limbs

If you haven't read George Megalogenis Quarterly Essay, you must. It is an excellent analysis of where Aus politics is and where it is heading. I saw some critique of it, that GM prefers the two party dominance for stability. I didn't elicit that in the QE.

In 1943 during her goodwill tour of New Zealand, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt shared a hongi, the traditional Māori greeting of pressing noses, with her Māori guide. This moment reflected her genuine respect for Māori culture and her admiration for women’s contributions during the war.
