This is so fascinating bc in theory, something like this should fuck up the game. Like, people shouldn’t be able to rp real people on a fictional spaceship and have it work. And yet. O/U embraced the frame breaking nonsense and now it’s part of the game.
There is someone roleplaying as Anthony Bourdain in #OVER/UNDER, just going around doing monologues in the various public spaces, and it's truly.... so good.

And this is where every twisting corridor of the dream ends: the city core hits me like a hangover that never really ended. Everything’s too bright and too dark at the same time: holo-ads bleeding through clouds of coolant steam, promising pleasure, relief, and escape in six-second loops nobody’s really watching anymore. I can feel the hum of the station beneath my boots, like a tired animal breathing slow, or maybe it’s the low rumble of the fighting league. It’s all stacked metal and patched wiring here; architecture built by a committee of welders and dreamers who never spoke the same language. Probably several committees.

Down on the streets I watch a drunk token miner yell at a vending machine that won’t take their credits. Somewhere above, a train rattles the ceiling as it leaves for a better, safer block that’s probably equally as tenuous. It’s loud, dirty, alive, and, in its own broken way, honest. You can’t gentrify vacuum, as much as this station tries. Holographic ads hawk enigmatic augmentations, political slogans that go out of date in an hour, or a good time of the sapphic variety. Smashing. that explains why the air tastes of android coolant. There’s the ever present hint of politics and commerce everywhere, inside the market, outside on the street; anyone not selling something seems to be planning, kneeling or squatting against walls, on the floor, in the street, whispering information or shouting it. This looked exactly like the Prospero Dreams of my fevered imaginings: dead drops, brush contacts, burst transmissions, betrayals.
When I finally leave the market, the blocks are dark, and I pass a few buildings lit by flickering electric light. Broom closet-sized alleyway stores and restaurants serving mysterious narcotics and hot meals for a few credits, flickering LEDs barely revealing the silhouettes of seated figures reading bratva literature. this is such a great encapsulation of why this race feels existential even to people outside NYC. Cuomo as the final boss of everything wrong with the current Democratic Party, Mamdani happily grabbing the third rails everyone’s told are too dangerous to touch (trans people, Muslims, socialism)
It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.

pointing at a game and saying "this is not a game" means you're saying it shouldnt be thought of as a game, it shouldnt be compared to other games, and it shouldnt be respected like a game. it's a tool of dismissal and erasure
