Based near Glasgow. Love writing, music and travelling. Love a good debate, hate modern politics, but always seem to end up mostly talking about it!

I mostly write fiction - that’s what I enjoy writing. But I do occasionally write political stuff and satire when I feel inspired. A random selection from over indyref.

Breaking News!

Christmas Markets are... really expensive and... really busy!

Are people who read Edinburgh Live REALLY this silly?

Edinburgh Christmas visitors blast '£7.50 drink' and say 'we are herded like cattle'
Reviews for this year's Edinburgh Christmas Market have described the market as "the worst so far" with visitors complaining about extortionate prices and aggressive staff.

Best 60s band in Glasgow, at least. And there’s a lot of competition these days!

Watching a band playing Paperback Writer and it’s making me think…what if the publisher wanted to release it in hardback first? Would that have been a hard no?

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots.

To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.

Predictably, the media (and of course all the deliberately divisive accounts that pretend to be pro Indy on SM) are focussing on magnifying division instead of on the service. Block, ignore and watch the service instead, if you haven’t.

I could happily just post nebulas all day. They’re beautiful and amazing, and make you realise how small everything we worry and fight about here on earth really is.

I do love the starter packs on here. Open to abuse in some fields, esp political, but just brilliant for random ways to brighten, liven or de-politics your thread with pretty things.

Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Politician: the cup needs to be sold to a private equity company and leased back from them at a £2 billion a year to ensure that there’s always enough investment to maintain it at an optimal and world beating level.
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Creative writing lecturer: describe the cup without using the word ‘cup’, ‘half’, or ‘empty’. You’ve got 15 minutes.
Optimist: the cup is ½ full

Pessimist: the cup is ½ empty

Illustrator: Depending on the angle, you may not be able to see what’s in the cup at all. You need to be more specific in your brief. What else is around the cup that we need to be able to see?

It bothers me why this is possible yet my broadband provider can’t stream a film without it stopping.
does it blow anyone else’s mind that both voyager spacecraft are still functioning and communicating with earth after almost 50 years of being in space and years of being in interstellar space??

Is there a special variety of this word for someone who loves reading in bed, in winter, with a hot water bottle? I’d happily spend every Sunday that way.
Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed.

(Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).
