The Dem political establishment is not freaking out because of Mamdani’s modest policy proposals or even so much his identity as DemSoc.

They are freaking out because he is NOT compromised by involvement in networks of corruption like they are—and those networks are freaking out about losing power.

One thing I really think needs to be hammered into “libertarians” & other right wing freaks is the cost of helping other people is almost always less than the cost of not helping them. Because we live in a society & we are all connected & you are SO MUCH CLOSER to being sick and poor than you think!

I don't know if there's ever been a culture more in love with charlatans than ours. "Success" defined entirely by how good you are at tricking people into giving you money. An entire country of aspiring slop merchants

Yup. This is every "dream job": 10% doing the thing, 90% doing everything else required to get to do that 10%.
I've got a photographer friend, and so many folks think it must be lovely to just show up, take a few pictures and get paid, without considering the thousands of hours that go into self promotion, handling finances, networking, and all the many things that aren't taking pictures.

A message to accessibility practitioners trying to distance themselves from DEI:

- that is not going to protect accessibility from this regime
- DEI and accessibility have always been linked, systemically accessibility must be intersectional to be truly effective.

I really caution artists from working with clients who need their passion project to be your passion project. Like, they want you to be extremely excited and emotionally invested in it.

You're being paid to do a job. You have a responsibility to draw what they are paying you for. And thats it.

Everyone’s like “this can’t be fascism it’s too dumb” but they don’t understand that fascism is in fact almost always very dumb! Fascist dictators are cruel and stupid men. And it’s popular because many people are cruel and stupid!

I have received so much support from mentors in my field. Today I got to repay the favor to one of them when I shared that a project we are hoping to work on together has been funded. It's going to represent about 1/3 of his revenue for the year.

Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.
@washingtonpost.com They were not DEPORTED. Deported means sending them back to their country of origin. These people were sent to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, without any due process or any analysis as to whether they feared harm in El Salvador!
In America, EVERYONE has a RIGHT to due process - regardless of immigration status. It’s fundamental to our Constitution.

Deporting hundreds of people in secret by invoking a wartime proclamation is a blatant abuse of power by President Trump.

Our Secretary of Defense almost certainly has more threatening/extremist tattoos and has more credibly been accused of sexual assault than almost all of the people being sent to El Salvador. No exaggeration.

They want the unreviewable power to grab people and render them to a foreign gulag.
If the Supreme Court ultimately agrees with what the gov't is arguing today, that the President has broad Article II powers that would permit it to deport people & there can be no judicial review, then literally no one is safe.

You are not safe if everyone is not safe.
Do you think you’re safe because you’re a US citizen? What guarantees your citizenship rights? The Constitution, the rule of law, & the institutions that protect them. If the regime breaks that rule of law by deporting non-citizens without trial or due process, defying court order, how safe are you?

Feel compelled to repeat a message I gave right before the election. Sometimes really bad things happen. They happen all the time. America’s freedom from historical calamity was a privilege, not a norm. It’s terrible, and it’s hard, but everyone else survives it all the time. We can too.
