The person agitating for this illegal regime change war won it last year so I’d say his chances are good
Trump said he would try again for the Nobel Peace Prize this year so he began the year with… an illegal war of regime change in Venezuela, after spending Christmas Day bombing Nigeria.

i believe the unilateral abduction of a head of state and commission of air strikes against his country's civilian and political infrastructure is deeply unamerican and a gross and unsettling violation of fundamental US and international laws and norms. however,

When American libs call Maduro a “brutal dictator” what they mean is he won’t hand his country’s resources over to US corporations.

The consequences for lying us into Iraq were not only “nothing” but outright rehabilitation of Bush as a “compassionate conservative” who was part of a noble dying breed so why should anyone waste the time justifying this one
I feel like I haven’t even been properly lied to about the purposes of this war

Big congrats to the Nobel Committee for awarding the prize "for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy" just so she could immediately conspire with a foreign government to murder civilians on the high seas then invade and stage a coup.
I feel like the history of western imperialism is often like this, where there's an almost-plausible case for resource-grabbing, an almost plausible geopolitical explanation (first Caracas, then Havana), and a sort of liberal imperialist fig leaf to keep democrats from being too mad (the Nobel shit)

So we know this was illegal. But our only hope is, apparently, for the democratic party to declare it was illegal and enforce the constitution. Ha. Ha ha ha.

They should run and hide beneath President Xi’s skirts ASAP but will instead bury their faces in Trump’s sweaty briefs
Genuinely wonder how European and Irish leaders do respond to this.

How are Denmark, Greenland or indeed the people of Ukraine and Taiwan feeling too?

I'm literally going to become one of those guys who corrects people when they say "North Korea" at this rate. The Democratic Republic, Juche, the Kims - all of it is constantly vindicated.

I'm not sure if I can believe Trump's post that they kidnapped Maduro, but if it's true it is alarming that the operations against Venezuela actually developed some teeth rather than just being "guys from Florida immediately get caught and piss themselves" or "Juan Guaido"

The best way to understand these people is that they are a coterie of people with antisocial personality disorder and/or narcissistic personalty disorder who gained wealth and subsequently power mostly by circumstances of birth. The few that actually climbed are turbo sociopaths.

the revelation that our entire ruling class is a cabal of pedophiles directly informs why such people would operate in such a way that murdering who knows how many people in Venezuela is a great way to do politics. These are not separate issues. Read the fuckin files!

You're better off just being a communist state. You can do targeted liberalization to develop your economy later, like China and Vietnam have. Trying to compromise with the reactionaries simply makes you vulnerable to... this. What we're seeing tonight.

Land reform. Reeducation programs. Exile when necessary. Broad nationalization. An oil investment fund, rather than spending current profits too quickly, until a transition to socialism sets in. Social democracy helps people in the short term, but it doesn't protect against powerful reactionaries!

If I didn't see these lessons play out, I'd probably support similarly good faith transitions to socialism. But no, he was kind to the very people who would later earn the Nobel Peace Price for agitating for his country to be bombed.

my only criticisms of venezuela are that Chavez didn't do comprehensive nationalization and land reform to sideline the ruling class families who have spent decades trying to destroy his political project. He was too kind, too open to liberalism, and now we can see exactly where that goes
