Hi #PortfolioDay !

I'm Afnan- an Algerian artist based in Qatar. Was raised in the UK. Currently working on a fantasy comic~
It's finally ready 🥺

🫒🌺Wednesday 10th December 2025🌺🫒

When I made my first comic as an adult three odd years ago (i.e. excluding my teen comics), it was about my story of making sense of my hardships. And, indeed, everyone's story deserves to be told.

Who convinced young men that 80's mullets and mustaches were cool? I want to meet this magician and recruit them to actual important causes.

By asking if they would say that to defend Hitler.
How do you politely explain to people that "so does Trump" is not an adequate reply to "Biden/Harris armed a genocide"? The same way you don't tell a victim of domestic violence that the only other partner option they have is also a wife beater. Have you all lost your fucking marbles?

It's a shame that there isn't an English equivalent to the word عتيق

It means ancient but in a revered way. I opt for using the word revered, because ancient is the literal translation but doesn't convey the feeling.

Palestine campaigning in Ireland and the UK has badly needed more union action and collective support of workers. That’s where the most power is, not with celebrity activists; the murder machine relies on labour. Stand with this Tesco worker who refused to handle Israeli goods

Really recommend the book Secrets of Divine Love🥺it helps undo the conditioning that we Muslims have that Allah swt has mercy and punishment as 50/50... and that's a best case scenario

Wow you'll want to curate a social liberatory feed but the algorithm will feed you lowkey fascist stuff with social justice glitter. 😭it's my fault for browsing threads. This is why i avoid these fascist and billionaire run apps when i can.

A lot of ppl think that I've been to art school even though the only formal art education I've had was an AS in the subject. I'm not self taught though- I've received a lot of great mentorships alhamdulillah. But yeah we live in a time with so much potential for growth outside the traditional route

Doing some research on the role of the United States on Algeria. I googled the debt that Algeria owed to the US during the Black Decade (1990s western-backed military coup, subsequent bloodbaths, and the terrorism it birthed). It was like looking for water in a desert.

Something I always got told growing up is never to regret an act of kindness, even if you're rewarded with nastiness. Makes me think of the hadith nawawi on actions being according to intentions. When your intentions are for Allah swt then the outcome doesn't matter.

People who vomit negativity on others are selfish. I'm not talking about going through a rough patch and needing temporary support. I'm talking about people who don't see a professional and have no regard for the fact that ranting makes them feel better but ruins someone else's entire day.

The stereotype that women gossip more and are drama is because women were excluded from work until recently. So their brains kept working and it would come out as gossip, since patriarchy/whatever you want to call it excluded them from being useful with their brain. Men can be very gossipy too.
