New private rental price data out today shows prices are still climbing - but the pace of growth is continuing to ease. In the year to July 2025, UK private rents rose to 5.9%, down from 6.7% in June.

Some welcome relief for the Chancellor this morning as CPI inflation came in slightly lower than market expectations at 2.5% in December, down from 2.6% in November. Underlying inflation also looks weaker. Should reduce some of the upward pressure on UK rates. Thread to follow...

No 10 was heavily briefing a scheme to dock housing benefit for anti-social behaviour

He refused to sign up to it & killed it on basis “you can’t have a punishment that’s only for the poor”
